During the joining together of different materials, e.g. wood with ceramic tiles or with stone or carpet, or tiles with laminate flooring or carpet, care must be taken to install the appropriate expansion joints in the surface of the pre-expansion joint. The use of two different materials, one of which is a constantly working material (e.g. wood) requires the appropriate expansion joint.

Expansion joint cork strips compensate for "work" in places where there can be distortions and deformations of the surface of the floor.
